MultiCon 2025: When Pop Culture Gives Back
Share
This past weekend, I had the chance to attend MultiCon, a small but incredibly special convention in Los Angeles. Unlike the massive, corporate-driven conventions we’re all used to, MultiCon was an intimate gathering of passionate fans, legendary creators, and dedicated cosplayers—all coming together for a good cause.
A Venue Straight Out of Jurassic Park
MultiCon took place at The Preserve, a venue that felt like Jurassic Park right in the middle of Los Angeles. I had no idea what to expect going in, and that sense of mystery made it all the more exciting. From the moment I arrived, the energy was one of curiosity—attendees weren’t entirely sure what they were walking into, but that added to the magic. The whole event had this organic, last-minute invite vibe, which made it feel like we had stumbled upon something truly special.
A Lineup of Legends
One of the biggest highlights of MultiCon was the panel lineup, which featured some of the biggest names in comics and pop culture:
- Rob Liefeld – The creator of Deadpool and one of the most influential comic artists of the '90s.
- Robert Kirkman – The mastermind behind The Walking Dead and Invincible.
- Kevin Smith – Filmmaker, geek culture icon, and all-around legend.
I didn’t get a chance to personally interact with them, but just being in the audience and hearing them speak was an incredible experience. These are the creators who shaped so much of what we love in comics, TV, and film, and seeing them together on stage was worth the trip alone.
Cosplay, Tabletop, and an Unexpectedly Intimate Experience
While MultiCon wasn’t packed with vendors like a typical convention, the cosplay scene was still strong. The 501st Legion—the legendary Star Wars costuming group—was there, along with the Los Angeles Ghostbusters, bringing an extra level of fun to the event.
I also spent some time in the tabletop gaming area, where @surenaxmarie introduced me to a Star Wars tabletop game. While I’m not sure these types of games are my thing, it was still cool to see the passion that goes into them.
What really set MultiCon apart was its small, intimate atmosphere. It didn’t feel like a massive, corporate event—it felt like a gathering of passionate fans who genuinely cared about the experience.
A Convention with a Cause
One of the most meaningful aspects of MultiCon was that it wasn’t just about fandom—it was about giving back. The event was a fundraiser for United Way of Greater Los Angeles and their wildfire recovery fund, supporting those affected by the devastating fires. While I don’t know the final numbers, I hope they raised a lot to help rebuild LA.
Would I Go Again? Absolutely.
MultiCon was unlike any convention I’ve attended before. It was small, personal, and filled with incredible people. There’s something special about a con that doesn’t rely on spectacle but instead brings together a passionate community.
If MultiCon returns next year, I’d love to be a part of it in a bigger way. Whether that means covering it more in-depth, contributing to the programming, or just showing up again, I’m all in.
For anyone thinking about going next year—do it. You never know who you’ll meet, what panels you’ll catch, or what kind of experience you’ll walk away with. But one thing’s for sure: it’ll be something special.
